Building a Better Community

Quite often we only hear about what is wrong with our community and not about the good things our business community does on behalf of our area.
Therefore, the Building Industry Association wants to share some good news being done by Members of the BIA to Build a Better Community.

River’s Edge Retreat in Irmo provides life changing experiences to underserved youth in the Midlands. They accomplish this by providing them with enrichment programs, camps and educational opportunities.
The camp is currently undergoing preparations for the 2019 season including a renovation of the kitchen facilities. The Remodelers Council of the Building Industry Association of Central SC (BIA) has volunteered time and expertise to help in this endeavor. In April, council members removed the existing tile flooring, installed new cabinets and a new tile floor.
Thanks to Jeremy Sheckell of Capital Kitchen & Bath, Scott Heron of Precision Properties, Chuck Grimsley of Grimsley Builders, Charles Foster of Southeastern Insurance Consultants and Pete Williams for the donation of their time and labor. Also, member company Southeastern Salvage has helped tremendously with materials for this project and others within the camp. Financial support is being provided by the Building Industry Charitable Foundation.
