On behalf of Building Occupational Opportunities in the Midlands (BOOM), we would like to invite your organization and any sub-contractors you work with to participate in one of two days we have scheduled to interview BOOM students for the workplace. Students will be matched with employers based on their skill sets and career interests in the construction industry as well as the employer’s hiring needs.
Since January, participating students have been working diligently in the classroom and construction lab to master specific skills to be employable and prepared for entry level positions in the construction industry. Students are currently working on one of three teams, with each team building a small house/shed to include a door frame and window installation. This activity is providing students with real world experience and allowing them to practice important hard and soft skills required by employers.
All students will be at least age 18, and selected by transition specialists and special education coordinators in their school district for this program. Upon program completion in May, students will be prepared for entry level positions to include jobsite helper, general laborer, carpenter helper, etc.
