Since September 2019, several partners including the Building Industry Association of Central SC, Midlands Technical College, SC Vocational Rehabilitation, Richland School Districts One and Two as well as Lexington Richland School District Five and Midlands Education and Business Alliance have worked diligently to continue important work to provide a training and career pathway for non-diploma high school students to enter the construction workforce, known as Building Occupational Opportunities in the Midlands (BOOM).
Participating students have worked diligently in the classroom and construction lab to master specific skills to be employable and prepared for entry level positions in the construction industry. The students worked in groups, each building small sheds/house, allowing them to apply knowledge learned in the classroom and practice workplace skills. This learning continued online during the COVID 19 pandemic. Upon program completion on May 26, BOOM has 8 students prepared for entry level positions to include jobsite helper, general laborer, carpenter helper, etc.
On behalf of BOOM, we would like to invite your organization and any sub-contractors you may work with to participate in an online interview with these 8 students on June 23, 2020, 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. As an employer, you will have the opportunity to interview these students during this time, spending 8-10 minutes with each student. If your organization has hiring needs and you would like the opportunity to interview these students, please register at Click Here for Employer Registration. The candidate’s resumes and a schedule will be emailed to prior to June 23.
